Emergency help
The state of Odisha lies on the eastern coast of India, on the Bay of Bengal, and receives the full lash of the monsoon rains annually. The low-lying plains in the coastal region flood easily and the strong winds cause damage to the flimsy straw roofs of the mud houses. Most of the villagers are too poor to provide their houses with more permanent, monsoon-resistant materials, and the local grasslands provide the most plentiful and affordable, but also the least sturdy option for repairs,. Tikau Share’s target village is located in this flood-prone region.
Tikau Share donations have helped rebuild the roofs of the houses after the annual floods. They have also bought rice for the villagers when floods have destroyed supplies.
